Talk about a comeback! Weeks after she released her new album, “Rare,” Selena Gomez now pushes through with her beauty line. She first talked about it back in August 2019 and now, she has even revealed the brand’s name, ‘Rare Beauty‘. She recently went on Instagram Live to give out all the details.  Women’s Wear Daily first reported the news back in August. At the time, the pop star had only filed a new trademark for “Selena Gomez” through her company, July Moon Productions. The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office even confirmed the news at the time as well. Back then, WWD also reported that the line will include a vast range of products, including fragrances, skin-care, and even hair-care products. And in her recent Instagram Live session, she expounded more about it. “There are lots and lots of other things I want to share with you guys, but we’re going to share them within a few months,” she said. 

The singer also shared that the brand name, Rare Beauty, is a nod to her latest titular single, “Rare”. “Being rare is about being comfortable with yourself,” she relayed. “I think Rare Beauty can be more than a beauty brand. I want us all to stop comparing ourselves to each other, and just start embracing our own uniqueness. You’re not defined by a photo, a like or a comment. Rare Beauty isn’t about how other people see you, it’s about how you see yourself.” Gomez continued. 

As for the release date and where fans could buy the line, Gomez followed up her IG Live session with a new video post detailing the release date and where they can buy the products. “Guys, I’ve been working on this special project for two years and can officially say Rare Beauty is launching in @sephora stores in North America this summer! Follow @rarebeauty and become part of our beautiful community. Here’s a tiny sneak. There’s more to share AND I can’t wait.” said her caption. the accompanying video even featured the singer testing out various palettes and products.

In essence, the pop star hopes that fans will enjoy her one for their uniqueness and high-quality. It’s meant to be enjoyed—it’s very special,” she stressed. “We are not meant to look like everybody else, we’re meant to look like ourselves.”. However, she’s going to face a lot of competition in the celebrity cosmetics game. The likes of Rihanna and Lady Gaga have already succeeded in establishing brands that fit well within their own beauty ethos. For a few years now, Riri’s Fenty Beauty and Gaga’s Haus Laboratories have equaled the success of established makeup brands, both in retail performance and media popularity. It’s going to be interesting to see how Gomez’s ‘Rare Beauty’ not only stands out but fare against them as well.   Selena Gomez’s Rare Beauty will drop in Sephora stores this summer. For now, neither Gomez nor Sephora have yet to reveal an exact date. Stay tuned on this space for more updates!
