From “bad guy” to Bond, Billie Eilish is already having quite a year this 2020! The Grammy-nominated singer just confirmed that she will write and perform the theme song for the latest James Bond film, “No Time To Die“. At only eighteen years old, she’s the youngest artist ever to perform for the iconic film franchise.

“No Time To Die” JAMES BOND. AND I AM SINGING THE THEME SONG. 🤭🤭🤭🤭🤭🤭 WHAAT” Eilish shared in her recent Instagram post. Revealing her new gig, fans quickly congratulated her on the comments section. From fire emojis to green hearts, it’s clear her admirers are excited for the pop star’s next big step in her career. Simultaneously, the official Twitter account of the James Bond film franchise also confirmed the news. “The #NoTimeToDie title song will be performed by @billieeilish. Billie has written the song with her brother @finneas and is the youngest artist in history to write and record a James Bond theme song” it tweeted.
Eilish herself recognizes this new gig as a career-high. “It feels crazy to be a part of this in every way. To be able to score the theme song to a film that is part of such a legendary series is a huge honor. James Bond is the coolest film franchise ever to exist. I’m still in shock.” shared the singer in an official statement the official James Bond Twitter account posted. Prior to the confirmation, the singer was already teasing the news on Instagram. She shared various images of beloved Bond girls of the last few Bond films. They included Halle Berry, Léa Seydoux, and Olga Kurylenko, among others. With this new gig, Eilish joins the ranks of countless legendary artists who’ve lent their talents for 007. They are the likes of Paul McCartney, Madonna, Alicia Keys, Adele, and Sam Smith. The latter two even won the Academy Award for Best Original Song respectively. Adele won for “Skyfall” back in 2013 and Smith won for “Writings On The Wall” back in 2016. Remarkably, this also marks the first time the franchise has collaborated with an artist who’s still in the early years of her career. Though she was already relatively known since 2016, Eilish skyrocketed to fame just last year with her hit album, “When We Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?“.
Strategically speaking, however, it was ideal for the Bond franchise to go for a much-younger artist for their theme song. While the franchise still knocks it out of the park in the box office, its target audience has remained within the more mature margin of movie-goers. By bringing in an emerging sensation, they’re attempting to pull in a much younger target audience. And it may have already worked. Upon confirmation of the collaboration, #Bond rose to top trending lists on Twitter. Suddenly, more of the younger millennials and Gen Z users were tweeting about the franchise, expressing their excitement for Eilish’s new track. The new James Bond film, “No Time To Die,” will premiere on April 8, 2020. It stars Daniel Craig, Léa Seydoux, and Rami Malek. Billie Eilish’s new track of the same name will likely drop beforehand.
