Selena Gomez has come back and she came back strong. She just dropped her latest album, “Rare,” which is an emotional rollercoaster of a record, to say the least. Here, she opens up about what she has gone through in the last four years and how she has overcome her struggles.

With over 13 tracks, as well as six bonus tracks within various special editions, the album serves as an open book to her past struggles. Unsurprisingly, two of her already-released singles appear in the record. The more emotional ballad chart-topperLose You To Love Me” and her fiercer party-ready track “Look At Her Now“. Both tracks lyrically explain the metamorphosis she has undergone in the past few years. There’s a vulnerability there, yes, but also a newfound confidence that Gomez hopes to inspire her fans with. The ‘opening up’ she does in this album is sharing this new courage to the world and letting go of the past.

Such a concept better explains why the album is more or less filled with club-ready bangers. Though they’re not all dance tracks, they do seem like perfect material EDM superstars can get their hands on and turn into mega rave hits themselves. With her new control of her music as well as her own narrative, Gomez introduces new genres, melodies, and beats that she might have otherwise wouldn’t have gone for in the past. Though, despite her newfound confidence, however, don’t expect this pop star to show off more than she needs to. Prior to the release of the album, she made one huge promise that she will not do anymore.  “I didn’t know you were going to play the video. My sister is here. I told my sister I will not be doing videos like that anymore. It’s not really necessary, in my opinion.” she said during a recent iHeartRadio interview. The video in question was “Hand To Myself” which featured Gomez in revealing clothing and dancing provocatively. Even the lyrics of this hit single alludes to extremely mature and sexual activity. But now that the singer has matured over the years, she wants to exclude that sort of narrative from her career. Most likely, she’ll still be dancing in her future videos, just don’t expect them to look overtly sexual.

As of this writing, the hashtag ‘#RareOutNow‘ tops trending lists on Twitter. Fans can’t help but express what they think of the new album. User jess evelyn (@repudrama) tweeted, “rare is excellent. well worth the wait! emotional, meaningful, fun, and unique (while still maintaining the familiar selena gomez sound). i strongly suggest streaming and/or buying this album. the songs are soooo relatable no matter what stage you’re at in life. #RareOutNow”. Fellow user Damien (@6inchSel) also agreed with her, posting “Wow. there are no words. just WOW! just finished listening to Rare, and i can very confidently say that not only is it her best album, but one of the best pop albums released recently. from the production to the lyrics to the overall vibe. it’s absolutely INCREDIBLE! #RareOutNow”. Most tweets also relay the same positive reaction.
