Happy New Year! After all that has happened, it’s safe to say it was a big year for DJs! Many of the biggest EDM heavyweights achieved incredible feats this past 2019. From reintroducing new stages in big music festivals to undertaking unique new projects, these superstar producers have gone above and beyond EDM. But for those who will focus on their music this new year, there’s still so much to expect.
As the world welcomes 2020, here are some EDM artists to look forward to this year!
Even though he has had a triumphant 2019, Martin Garrix already looks busy this 2020. This time around, he seems focused on working solely on music this year. Perhaps the biggest, personally and professionally for the young Dutch DJ, is having to create the theme for the UEFA League’s Euro 2020 Championships. “It’s crazy to think that UEFA EURO 2020 will be held across 12 different cities, but it’s the perfect way to celebrate 60 years of this incredible competition. Music is my passion, but I’m also a huge football fan, so it’s extra special for me to be able to create the official song for what will be the biggest EURO in history,” he shared in an official statement.
During the latter months of 2019, Skrillex often teased that he is working on something new. At one point, he tweeted that he was busy mixing new tracks on new equipment he got at the time. And back in July, he surprised fans with a surprise EP entitled “Show Tracks“. With all his mysterious social media antics, it’s clear new a new Skrillex record is on the horizon. Add to that the fact that he has also reunited with fellow DJs from his side-projects. He has since collaborated with Boys Noize to make up ‘Dog Blood’ again. And Diplo, on the other hand, has teased that he might reunite with Skrillex to bring back Jack Ü.
Speaking of Diplo, another of his side-project acts might also make waves this 2020, Major Lazer. 2019 was a tumultuous year for the EDM trio. They recently experienced a shift in members as Jillionaire chose to exit the group. Ultimately, the replaced him with Ape Drums, a Texas-born producer. Despite all this drama, however, Major Lazer has remained busy releasing new music, all of which are included in their final album, “Lazerism”. Though initially planned to drop in 2019, they have changed it to this year. And since this will be their last outing as a group, they’re sure to go out with a bang!
If Flume wins at the 2020 Grammy Awards this coming January 27, he’s off to a great start this 2020. Not all DJs, even of his caliber, can say that they started the year with a Grammy win. But that’s just how exciting the year looks for the Australian artist. And even beyond that, he recently revealed that he plans to begin 2020 with a new album. He will try to record and craft the new release in about four months, expecting an early spring drop. Not to mention, in March, he will play at Miami’s Ultra Music Festival for the first time. Talk about a big year ahead!
When you’ve become a legend, every year is a big year. This applies mostly to industry icons such as Carl Cox. Though a veteran in the game, he still has a lot to offer! And he bringing all his aces in many of his upcoming gigs this year. The first big stop? Ultra Music Festival! He will bring his famous ‘Resistance Miami‘ stage back at the famed EDM event with a stellar lineup. He will then play at CRSSD Spring 2020 and at Glastonbury 2020 to help celebrate the latter’s 50th Anniversary! This old dog still has a few tricks up his sleeve!
