Left and right, female artists are changing the game and Billboard wants to honor them for it. Just a few weeks from now, the music publication plans to hold their annual “Women in Music” event. They plan to pay tribute to the prominent women that have made an impact in both the industry and beyond.  Just a few weeks ago, Billboard already announced that they plan to give Taylor Swift their first-ever “Woman of the Decade” award. This follows after the American Music Awards gave her their own “Artist of the Decade” award just last week. With a whole host of number-one singles, best-selling albums, and sold-out tours, it’s clear that countless entities see that Swift deserves such a title. Billboard also added that the artist’s work on certain causes and movements also deems her worthy of the award.  “The singer-songwriter is also being honored for her commitment to protecting creative rights, music education, literacy programs, cancer research, disaster relief, and the Time’s Up initiative.” they shared.

But apart from Swift, other female artists honored that night will include Alicia Keys, Megan Thee Stallion, and Rosalia. Keys, herself another chart-topping artist, will receive the “American Express Impact” award on the upcoming annual event. The publication cites the singer’s “She Is The Music” movement that seeks to encourage and push female artists forward within the music industry. After founding it in the “Women in Music” event last year, Keys’ “She Is The Music” as since partnered with Billboard, the USC Annenberg Inclusion Initiative, and Universal to further their cause. The entity has even launched a Latin committee to help Latin female artists as well.  Meanwhile, Megan Thee Stallion will receive this year’s Powerhouse Award. With hit after hit, the emerging rapper has since proven that she is a force to be reckoned with within the music industry. In fact, her “Hot Girl Summer” became one of the biggest hits of the year. And even before she released it as a rap song, the phrase already started a movement in of itself within social media. So for an up-and-coming star to have that effect on many fans, it’s no surprise that she will receive Billboard’s Powerhouse Award this year.

And for Rosalia, she will receive the Rising Star award. Her flamenco-infused music has captured fans even beyond the typical Latin base. Fans are clearly resonating with her authentic and modern approach to Latin music and Billboard has taken notice. And just recently, the young Spanish singer won three Latin Grammy awards. Her album, “El Mal Querer,” won the “Album of the Year” and “Best Contemporary Pop Vocal Album” awards. While her single, “Con Altura” featuring J Balvin, won the “Best Urban Song” award. By these accolades alone, she really does deserve the recognition billboard plans to give her in this event.   Catch Billboard’s “Women in Music” even via an online live stream on December 6, 2019. Apart from Swift, Keys, Thee Stallion, and Rosalia, Billboard will honor Alanis Morissette and Nicki Minaj as well.
