Later this week, Avicii fans will once again feel his spirit in an upcoming concert. In line with Mental Health Awareness, the event will pay tribute to the late DJ, featuring a medley of all his former hits. It’s a one-off chance to relive the music and the legacy of one of EDM’s brightest yet most tragic stars. The Tim Bergling Foundation, which is run by Avicii’s father Klas Bergling, staged the even both in honor of the late producer and to shed light on Mental health issues. The concert will feature 19 of the most famous singers in the industry, including the likes of Adam Lambert, Rita Ora, Aloe Blacc, and more. A 30-piece band will also accompany the electronic music in this hotly-anticipated two-hour set. With all of these elements, the special event seeks to amplify Avicii’s legacy and impact, not just in the EDM scene, but in the music industry in general.
However, Bergling wants fans and attendees to note that the message regarding mental health will be just as important as the tribute to his late son. “Every year around 1500 people take their own lives in Sweden and globally up to one million. It is a tragedy that affects families, communities and with long-term effects on relatives who live on in grief. It is a global crisis and the second most common cause of death among young people aged 15-29.” he shared in a statement. “We want this concert to help put the topic on the agenda and pay attention to the stigma surrounding mental illness and suicide. Policies and tools are needed to detect the risks and prevent suicide, especially among young people.”. So, in order to further spread that message, the Foundation also planned to stream the concert live online. Across all of the late DJ’s social media accounts and digital platforms, the tribute event will be live-streamed in real-time. And for those who might miss the live stream, expect that they will upload the full video soon after.
By the looks of it, fans are still reeling from such a tragic loss. And his suicide has impacted the EDM game more than he could have ever imagined. The tragedy did lead to the establishment of his tributary foundation. It helped start the conversation on the importance of mental health. Just recently, superstars like Martin Garrix and Armin van Buuren also opened up about dealing with mental health. And like the late producer’s father, they too have relatively become advocates for improving the mental health of fellow artists. Through their own platforms, they have reached out to fellow DJs and producers. They want to ensure that they are taking care of themselves as much as their music. The Avicii Tribute concert will happen on December 5, 2020, from 9:00 pm to 11:00 pm. You can watch live on his official YouTube page as well as his other social media pages.
