Halloween this year isn’t even over yet but Insomniac has already started preparing for next year’s! Fresh off this year’s edition, Insomniac has just announced their 2020 Escape: Psycho Circus festival. The event will take place smack dab on All Hallow’s Eve itself, making next year’s edition one to watch out for. But for now, they have yet to reveal their lineup of headliners.   Started in 2011, the Halloween event inaugurated Insomniac’s ‘Escape’ series of festivals. It used to be called “Escape From Wonderland” and wasn’t as scary and creepy as it is now. Only recently did the festival embrace its Halloween theme, as well as evolving into an outright carnival. And since it had its distinct uniqueness, as well as a particular place in the EDM festival calendar year, many prominent DJs have performed during the festival. Just this year, they got the likes of deadmau5, Alesso, and Dillon Francis to play their electric sets. Each also offered a unique experience in of themselves.

deadmau5 was arguably the more memorable among all headliners this year. He offered his classic set of strong beats and aggressive rhythms. Set against the backdrop of a veiled skeleton, the Canadian DJ provided a rather eerie but equally fun EDM experience for his fans. The skeleton, slightly inspired by Mexico’s “Day Of The Dead,” even moved its arms from time to time. The strobing lights against the scary backdrop proved just how well EDM meshed with Halloween. There were even times that the Skeleton would lipsync the very few vocals heard from deadmau5’s set. For about an hour and a half, he kept the people dancing.  Dillon Francis, on the other hand, undoubtedly had the best moment of the entire festival during his set. He surprised his audience when, out of nowhere, he played the famous ABBA track, “Dancing Queen”. Known for his electric sounds, the classic Disco song was a pleasant surprise, albeit a slightly weird one. But it didn’t stop Joel Zimmerman, a.k.a. deadmau5, to seize the opportunity to make people laugh. Without his iconic mouse mask, the Canadian DJ hopped on Francis’s booth and challenged the latter to a dance battle. To which the performing producer accepted and both danced like children in front of the massive audience.

Francis even posted about it on his Twitter account. Sharing the video of the hilarious moment, he captioned his Tweet saying, “Here’s the wholesome content you need today… @deadmau5 and i dancing to “dancing queen”. Since both producers don’t necessarily share the same approach to music, the comedic dance-off served as a rare moment where both of them had a little fun with each other. There’s no word as to who won the dance-off, but the people in the audience were definitely the winners of the night. Here’s to hoping there’s round two if both DJs will come back to headline Escape: Psycho Circus 2020 together!

Insomniac’s Escape: Psycho Circus will run from October 30 to 31, 2020. You can already pre-order tickets now by clicking here. As for their lineup, stay tuned on this space for more updates!
