It looks like Kanye West will finally really release his upcoming album, “Jesus Is King“. After changing the drop date, he also announced a new documentary to accompany it. The latter, directed by Nick Knight, will give fans a unique and behind-the-scenes look on the rapper’s ‘Sunday Service’ events. And he just released the trailer for it recently.

Watch the trailer for the “Jesus Is King” documentary below:

He started the trailer with the bible verse Mark 1:15. It says, “The time is fulfilled and the kingdom of God is at hand: Repent and believe in the Gospel”. The rapper then confesses in a voice-over that he sees his new faith as a mission of sorts. “I’m an evangelist, so my music, my films, every conversation, every room I go in, we’re here to save souls, save you from eternal damnation,” he said. In the clip, he’s also seen walking up a mountain as the camera pans to the open cloudy sky—a visual metaphor to what making this upcoming album has been to West.

Bible verse John 17:16 also appears in the video. It says, “They are not of the world, even as I am not of this world”. It gave way to clips showing how West, Knight, and others prepared to shoot his ‘Sunday Service’ tour in Roden Crater, an art installation in Arizona. Made by light and space artist James Turrell, the space gives the rapper and his choir a new environment and striking visuals that help drive their message f0rward. The trailer also shows just how hands-on and devoted West has become on his new tour. As well as his upcoming music and his newfound faith.  In fact, many of West’s fans might not realize just how strongly he feels about becoming a Christian evangelist. The rapper’s pastor, Adam Tyson, revealed in a recent interview that West almost quit rapping due to his faith. He noted that the rapper thought of the genre as the “devil’s music”. “One time, he told me that he wasn’t going to rap. I said, ‘Why not? Rap is a genre. You can rap for God.’ I think he was already thinking about it a little bit, but I definitely said, ‘Hey, bro. I think you need to use your talents that God’s given you and use that platform for God.'” Tyson shared.

The pastor also explained how West approached him back in May to join his Placerita Bible Church in California. “Kanye said, ‘About five weeks ago, I got radically saved.’ He just started telling me a little about his testimony.” he relayed. Tyson also mentioned that West felt the weight of the guilt of sin enforced by his superstardom and the music industry. “The guilt of sin brought him down low. He would say the devil basically brought him to a place where he just felt like he was in bondage to his sin. So he said, ‘I got delivered.’” Kanye West’s new documentary, “Jesus Is King,” will premiere in Imax theaters on October 25, 2019. Meanwhile, his upcoming album of the same name will also drop on the same day. Stay tuned on this space for more updates.
