Music festivals are breaking records left and right! This year’s edition of the Amsterdam Dance Event festival revealed that they expect over 400,000 attendees this week. In its 34-year history, the 2019 event might serve as one of their biggest editions in recent memory. And the lineup of prominent EDM stars stands proof of that! According to the latest report of ING economists, Dutch DJs are on their way to generating €150 million in exports this year. The Netherlands has long been a strong fixture in both the European and the Global EDM scene. Apart from providing some of the best of the best DJs in the industry, they’ve also fostered a welcoming environment where both veterans and newcomers can uplift their craft. ADE is part of such a movement, with not only a famous rave every night but also a series of talks and conferences that mostly center around electronic dance music. It even came to a point that now, EDM accounts for 75% of the country’s music exports.
As the festival starts today, the 400,000 expected attendees will witness a barrage of first-class DJs to play in this year’s edition. They include Armin Van Buuren, Tiësto, Martin Garrix, and the like. Van Buuren is perhaps the busiest among the announced headliners. He will soon release a new full album, “Balance,” slated to be his seventh studio release. From it, he has released a number of well-received singles, such as “Don’t Let Me Go” and “Waking Up With You”. And if that’s not enough, he also plans to put up his own Escape Room for the festival. His own upcoming album inspired the new attraction. Martin Garrix, on the other hand, is currently having a bit of an epiphany about the EDM scene in general. He recently revealed that he doesn’t really care for the title of the top #1 DJ in the world. “I really don’t care, the so-called world ranking. I don’t need a list to do what I like. I’m at 1, yes. And Tiësto is very many places below me. That doesn’t make sense, does it? I started playing music through him. I am not a better DJ than him, maybe now I just have a bit more hype around me. By the way, there are also people in that list from whom I have never heard of, so I have my doubts about the creation.” he once shared.
And speaking of Tiësto, ADE 2019 will serve as one of his first high-profile appearances since getting married last week. The Dutch veteran DJ married his model girlfriend Annika Bakes in a beautiful ceremony in a remote Utah resort. The aesthetics of the event were so beautiful that their wedding photos went viral on social media.
