Academy Award-nominated Margot Robbie is having the time of her life in the new official trailer for “Birds Of Prey“. Here, she evolves from being Joker’s ex and villainous sidekick to creating a gang of her own. “I wanted a fresh start. But it turns out I wasn’t the only dame in Gotham looking for emancipation.” Robbie says in the trailer’s voice-over.

Watch the “Birds of Prey” trailer below:

Set after the events of “Suicide Squad,” the film sees Quinn forming her own girl squad to fight crimes in Gotham city. With both Batman and Joker disappeared, she takes it upon herself to be the new hero of the city. The plot also surrounds Cassandra Cain, a young girl who finds a diamond that belongs to Black Mask, a mafia boss that’s currently terrorizing the city. Quinn, who the crime lord is also after, seeks the help of other female heroes in order to protect Cain and bring down Black Mask. They include Renee Montoya, Huntress, and Black Canary.

While the trailer introduces a flurry of new actors, it also highlighted Robbie’s Harley Quinn more than ever. Back in the 2016 star-studded film, Robbie’s performance as the villainous sidekick catapulted her to superstardom. Even though she was already well-known at the time due to her performance in the Academy Award-nominated 2013 film, “The Wolf of Wall Street,” this DCEU movie was what made fans notice her more. And since then, she has starred in a number of successful films. They include “Goodbye Christopher Robin” and “Once Upon A Time in Hollywood,” among others. As well as her first self-produced project, “I, Tonya“. She even received a Best Actress Oscar nod for her performance in the latter.  Though the trailer shows Joker and Quinn broke up, this doesn’t mean it’s the last audience will see them together. For one thing, the movie won’t likely show their break up (and the cause of it) in the film. This is especially since Jared Leto—who plays Joker in this film series—will not make an appearance in the movie. So while Harley Quinn gets her own adventure, fans will still want to know why the villainous power-couple separated. Furthermore, Robbie has already signed on to star in the sequel to the 2016 film, “The Suicide Squad,” which will premiere in 2021.

“Birds of Prey” will premiere in theaters on February 7, 2020. It stars Margot Robbie back as Harley Quinn, as well as Ewan McGregor, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Rosie Perez, Chris Messina, and Ella Jay Basco. Stay tuned on this space for more updates!  Image Credits:
