German-born EDM festival Time Warp returns to the Big Apple this 2019. Their upcoming return to New York City marks their first event back since 2015. And the best part? They brought with them a stellar lineup that boasts the likes of Amelie Lens, Peggy Gou, Maceo Plex, Nina Kraviz, and more. Since 1994, Time Warp has been one of the most highly-anticipated events in the EDM arena. Established in Mannheim, Germany, the event has long served as a convergence for European DJs to play their best in music. It’s also a celebrated festival that helped shape the continent’s rave culture during the late 90s and early 2000s. It’s no wonder, then, that they were able to lock in such a lineup for their return to New York City. In actuality, a lot of the big names fans should expect are the same ones who headlined their annual event in Germany last April.
Among them, Ricardo Villalobos is probably the most highly-anticipated. The Chilean-German DJ returns to the United States of America after four years of absence. In fact, he last visited the States when he headlined Time Warp’s last New York edition back in 2015. Since the 1990s, Villalobos has been one of the most influential DJs in the EDM game. He has released countless singles, three successful studio albums, and four compilation albums. A flurry of currently big EDM stars also views him as an inspiration. The most prominent of which is Damian Lazarus. He claims that seeing Villalobos perform in Ibiza in 2005 was a “life-changing moment”. In terms of who’s the busiest DJ in the lineup, that’ll be Amelie Lens, no question. The Belgian DJ has enjoyed quite a 2019 so far. Some of the biggest festivals invited her as part of their lineups. At this point of the year, she has already played at Coachella, Tomorrowland, and OFFSónar, among many others. And this coming weekend, on August 31, 2019, she’s bringing a highly successful Exhale party to Milan’s Social Music City. It will serve as the opening event for the EDM haven, which closed this past summer due to renovation. Alongside Lens, Dax J, Mattia Trani, and Regal will all perform as well.
Berlin-based South Korean DJ Peggy Gou, on the other hand, is another big name fans are eager to see at this side of the pond. With a hip streetwear line of her own, she was recently dubbed as the “World’s Hippest DJ”. And since her fashion line is associated with Off-White and Louis Vuitton Menswear designer Virgil Abloh, there was no contention there. In her interview with The Guardian, she revealed that she initially studied to be a fashion designer at the London College of Fashion. It was then when she got into rave culture, leaving behind her fashion dreams and becoming a superstar DJ instead when she moved to Berlin. Time Warp New York 2019 Edition will take place in the Bronx’s New York Expo Center from November 22 to 23, 2019. Click here if you want to know more details about the event.
