To say that Creamfields 2019 was a fun rave would be an understatement. Once again, the British proved just how well they put on a rockin’ EDM festival. This year’s Creamfields Festival even brought out the best in some of the biggest names in electro dance music, which include Calvin Harris and Swedish House Mafia. Unsurprisingly, Calvin Hariss’s set was met with a lot of excitement. “My name is Calvin Harris in case you didn’t know. And it’s my pleasure to be with you all tonight,” the Scottish DJ shouted to the audience. It wasn’t long before he gave the crowd a fantastic set of hit after hit after hit, reminding everyone there why he’s one of the biggest names in the music industry today. His appearance was also rare as he’s been busy completing his multiple residences in the likes of Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and Ibiza. Creamfields was his only UK performance this year.

Another highly-anticipated headliner that didn’t disappoint was the EDM trio, Swedish House Mafia. After reuniting last year following a long hiatus, they gave what was their biggest festival performance to date. With all sorts of pyrotechnics and state-of-the-art lighting installations, the trio put out all the stops. They left the audience dazzled with their set, which became so massive the organizers reportedly dedicated the entire day for the Scandinavian DJs. And similarly to Harris, Creamfields served as their only UK performance. It was also one of their last few stops before they end their 2019 reunion tour. However, it wasn’t all fun and dancing during the event neither. The festival witnessed the death of a 19-year-old teenager last Saturday morning. He reportedly died after falling sick during the event. Authorities rushed him to the Warrington District General Hospital where he passed away shortly after. “A file will be prepared for the coroner and our thoughts are with the family at this incredibly difficult time,” the DI Alistair Hinze of Cheshire Police relayed. Furthermore, a Creamfields spokeswoman shared an official statement regarding the tragedy. “We send our deepest condolences to his loved ones and we continue to work closely with the authorities,”.

But much more disturbing is the fact that this 19-year-old’s death was the second case of teenage fatality during the recent music festivals. At the Leeds Festival last Saturday, around the same time as the case in Liverpool’s Creamfields Festival, a 17-year-old girl died due to a suspected drug overdose. Simultaneously, authorities arrested a 17-year-old boy on suspicion of selling drugs illegally during the festival. As of this writing, the teenager remains in custody.

“This is a tragic incident and I hope serves as a timely reminder to others of the risk of taking illegal substances, particularly when mixing different types of drugs and drinking alcohol. If anyone has any concerns for either themselves or others at the festival, I would urge them to contact staff on-site or seek urgent medical assistance.” shared Superintendent Matt Davison. He served as the Leeds Festival’s Police Commander during the event. For now, Creamfields has yet to announce the dates for their 2020 festival. Stay tuned here for more updates!
