Ahead of her album release later this week, Taylor Swift finally revealed her fashion capsule collection. The line, a collaboration between the pop star and designer Stella McCartney, is in line with her new album, “Lover“. It’s a selection of t-shirts, jackets, and hoodies decorated with lyrics and motifs from her forthcoming record.

The offering largely consists of pastel-hued pieces. Swirls of baby blue, pale yellow, and icy pink are painted on the array of casual-wear. Some even show tie-dyed patterns with multiple colors, particularly a menswear top that bears the logo: ‘Stella x Taylor Swift’. Though entirely romantic, some motifs evoke a quintessential Downtown Los Angeles vibe, especially the imagery of a heart with angel wings. Such a design move incorporates a more streetwear touch, which may work well with Swift’s younger fans (and potential customers). Overall, it’s not that high-brow an offering. In contrast to Swift’s own red carpet style, the line is approachable that many people can buy into.
Furthermore, the entire collection stays true to McCartney’s sustainable fashion retail practices. They undertook eco-aware processes to produce the line. They also avoided using fur and leather materials. “At Stella McCartney, we are so serious in how we manufacture and how responsible we are. We are always looking at sustainability and not killing animals, it means we have such a serious undertone in the everyday runnings morally of how we conduct ourselves as a brand. So I always have to counter that with having a lightness of heart and have a sense of humor and not make people feel terrible,” shared McCartney. Taylor Swift herself shared, in her recent interview with Vogue Magazine, that the idea behind the collection started with the closeness between her and the designer. “When I started spending more time in London, Stella and I would go on walks, have cocktails, and talk about life. So when it came time to write this album, I name-checked her in one of my songs, and when I played her the album, I said, ‘Should we do something?’” the singer relayed. She also decorated a lot of the pieces with song lyrics and the tracklist of her “Lover” album.
In reaction to Swift’s idea to collaborate, McCartney expressed enthusiasm on the get-go. “I couldn’t believe that my name is in a Taylor Swift song and after Taylor played me the entire album it gave me such incredible inspiration for the collaboration and it really revolved around the music. When Taylor asked me, or even thought to come and do this with me, what I love is how we really complement each other in what we generate creatively together,” the designer told Vogue magazine. In recent years, this has been one of McCartney’s most expansive collaborative projects. Taylor Swift and Stela McCartney plan to drop this new line on Thursday, August 22, 2019. The pop star will also talk more about it in an exclusive YouTube live session on the same day. She will subsequently release her highly-anticipated “Lover” album on August 23, 2019.
