The summer diva battle is about to get hotter! Katy Perry just teased a possible new single called “Small Talk” on social media. In a barrage of recent Instagram posts, the singer showed snapshots of her own notepad with what looked like lyrics to a song. Though Perry already released a new song earlier this year, this teasers still came as a shock to most fans. Based on her previous interviews regarding her last single, “Never Really Over,” which she released last June, the popstar implied she wasn’t working on an album. She led many to believe at the time that “Never Really Over” was a stand-alone release. But now, things have seemingly changed. With a possible new single on the horizon, it’s looking more and more like the songstress is gearing up for either an EP or a full-blown album release. Her last record was “Witness,” which she dropped back in 2017.

Consequently, fans are already putting out their own theories regarding the upcoming track. Many are suspecting that the song is a collaboration between the pop star and singer Charlie Puth. The latter seemingly revealed that he may have taken part in producing the rumored single. “What! How do you know about that? Geez, is anything a secret nowadays?” he ranted during an Instagram live. He was responding to a question regarding “Small Talk” at the time. Both singers have yet to officially work together, but Puth has covered Perry’s songs before. He’s also worked with Bonnie McKee, Perry’s frequent songwriting collaborator. Meanwhile, a lot of Swifties and KatyCats are theorizing that “Small Talk” might just be the collaboration between Perry and her former rival Taylor Swift. Since squashing their beef earlier this year, they’ve been teasing fans about working together through all sorts of social media posts. In fact, many already speculated that Swift’s last single, “You Need To Calm Down,” was their team-up track. Prior to the music video’s release, the “California Girls” singer posted a pic of a plate of cookies with the icing that said, “Peace At Last“. It was actually a teaser of her cameo in Swift’s music video.

While fans wait to find out what her latest teasers really mean, they’re also busy supporting the pop star in her latest legal battle. Perry and her co-writers were recently charged with copyright infringement for their song, “Dark Horse”. Rapper Flame accused the singer and her collaborators of plagiarizing his 2008 track “Joyful Noise” for the latter’s 2014 chart-topper. As a result, Perry and her co-writers are forced to pay Flame a whopping $2.78 million. But the pop star isn’t backing down. She’s planning to appeal the verdict, strongly insisting that she didn’t break any laws nor did she copy anyone to create her hit single. Despite her present legal troubles, it looks like Perry is really back in the game. As to when she’ll release this new track, she’s yet to reveal. But fans, however, are already excited nonetheless.
