You know how music can oftentimes inspire fashion retail? Well, Nike took it up a notch with their latest upcoming release. Sampling—the practice of taking an already existing track and slightly incorporating it to your own—inspired their new Air Max 90 model. Influenced by a bevy of Air Max classics, their latest pack, the Air Max 90 “Mixtape,” incorporates sampling into footwear. And the results are just as cool!

Similarly to a real mixtape, there two sides to this new model. ‘Side A’ is a lighter model both in tone and vibe. Its delectable lemon-hued laces and ostrich-leather swoosh come from fan-favorite “Powerwall Lemonade” model. Meanwhile, the “Untold Truth” model from 2006 inform the sneakers’ oversized cross-stitching at the back. The obvious feature holds everything together in its fine finish. “King of the Mountain” inspired the model’s nubuck-leather mudguard. And finally, the playlist of the models these shoes ‘sampled‘ were written down on the soles too.

On the other hand, ‘Side B’ takes the shoes to a darker territory (literally!). Here, the creams, grays, and lemon yellows that brightened up the previous colorway are all gone. Now, they’re all replaced with darker tones of black, anthracite, and deep plum offset by sunblush laces and detailing. Also similarly to ‘Side A,’ the “Moon Landing” print makes an appearance, albeit a darker graphic, on this pair.
