Keith Flint wasn’t just the frontman of The Prodigy, one of the most prominent techno punk bands of the 90s. He was also a style icon that inspired millions, including Donatella Versace. The Italian designer reminded the world of Flint’s sartorial influence with a tribute menswear collection for spring 2020.

Versace’s Spring 2020 menswear collection presented modern interpretations of Flint’s indelible style. There were leather jackets, vibrant colors, and aggressive prints—the rockstar’s go-to pieces when performing on stage. Simultaneously, touches of tie-dye and denim exhibited Flint’s largely laid-back attitude off stage. And lurex sweaters gave credence to the overall punk and underground aesthetic of the band.

“I dedicate this collection to my old friend. He was disruption… and he performed right here the last time he was in Milan.” shared Versace during her post-show interview. Flint had been a good friend of the designer’s for quite some time. And the performance Versace was talking about was back in 2004, when The Prodigy themselves played at the label’s menswear shows. “Milan smells of sex and death. I like to bring the ugly to the beauty,” stated Flint when interviewed at the time. Subsequently, the brand opened their tribute show with ‘Firestarter’ as the soundtrack.

Keith Flint was approaching 50 when he passed away last March. The coroner ruled his death as suicide, but lack of sufficient evidence consequently led to an open verdict. Apart from the Versace show, fans and friends from all around the world paid tribute to the fallen rock star as well. It even came to a point that people started a petition for a Keith Flint statue to be put up in his hometown of Braintree, Essex.

As for his bandmates, they reached out via social media to advocate on mental health awareness. “It has been a tough time for everyone over the last few weeks since Keef’s passing. If you are struggling with depression, addiction or the impact of suicide, please do not suffer in silence,” the shared on Instagram last month. They’ve since lent their support to various mental health awareness and improvement organizations.

Versace’s tribute collection to Keith Flint is their spring 2020 menswear offering. They’ll drop the line early next year both in stores and online.
