She speaks! After two months of silence on Twitter, Nicki Minaj sent out a rather cryptic tweet last June 12, 2019. In all-caps letters, she tweeted “MEGATRON,” no more, no less. Fans are already speculating it might be a teaser for new music.

For the “Anaconda” rapper—who hasn’t tweeted since late March—to tweet out just that one word inspired much curiosity online. Although she has used that word in previous tracks. In Future’s 2018 single, “Transformers,” she rhymed, “Some call me Nicki but some call me Megatron. I’m stoppin’ bags and I don’t need a red octagon!” Subsequently, she went further as to change her Twitter title name and cover image with the said word. Though she hasn’t said anything about all of it yet, it’s beginning to look a lot like a new single or possibly an EP or album are on the horizon.

If this is the case, the industry has a future diva showdown on its hands. The likes of Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus, and Banks have all released or teased new music in the past few weeks. In fact, speaking of cryptic social media posts, Perry’s own recent cookie-induced Instagram peace offering to Swift has both fandoms guessing a collaboration between the two now-former rivals might be in the works. Meanwhile, Cyrus has been filling her own Instagram account with wildly suggestive imagery to promote her recently released EP, “She Is Coming.” For Minaj, if this does turn out to be a new album, it’ll be her fifth record to date. Her last release was “Queen,” which produced singles such as “Chung-Li” and “Barbie Tingz.”
