It seems some people still don’t get it! After a racially-charged incident with SZA, Sephora closed down all of their US locations last June 5, 2019. They used the day for a special inclusion workshop, specifically focusing on how employees should treat customers of color appropriately. This came after the 28-year-old singer-songwriter accused a Sephora sales associate of calling security on her at the store last April 30, 2019.
“Lmao Sandy Sephora location 614 Calabasas called security to make sure I wasn’t stealing,” SZA tweeted after the said incident. She later mentioned that she had a long talk with ‘Sandy’ about how inappropriate her purported actions were. “U have a blessed day Sandy,” the singer shared.

She later vented out even further on social media about how she can’t freely shop for luxury cosmetics just because of her skin color. She tweeted “Can a bitch cop her fenty in peace er whut(?).”

As a response, Sephora quickly reached out to SZA via Twitter. They ensured her that she is a valued customer of the beauty brand. “You are a part of the Sephora family, and we are committed to ensuring every member of our community feels welcome and included at our stores.” tweeted the company.
They also announced on their Instagram page that Wednesday, June 5, 2019, will be their ‘inclusion workshop’ day, resulting in the lockdown of all US stores. “Sephora believes in championing all beauty, living with courage, and standing fearlessly together to celebrate our differences,” said the corresponding video on the Instagram post.

As for SZA, she got a plentiful Fenty surprise of her own following the incident. The makeup brand’s founder, Rihanna, sent the singer a Fenty Beauty gift card. With it came a note that said, “Go buy yo Fenty Beauty in peace sis!”
