You probably get a lot from watching movies. Ideas for grand romantic gestures, the best lines for any situation, or even a cool new soundtrack to listen to. Films have given pop culture a few exciting kicks in the last few decades. In the nightlife scene, you probably didn’t know it yet but some of your favorite cocktails originated or were popularized by certain movies.

From the Marylin Monroe’s dizzying drink to the pretty pink concoction that had Carrie Bradshaw and friends crazy for love and sex, here are some of the most unforgettable cocktails from the movies.

Vodka Martini – James Bond: Goldfinger (1964)

Admit it, when you’re ordering a drink at the bar, you’ve always wanted to utter the phrase, “shaken, not stirred.” Well, you can thank James Bond for that iconic saying, as well as the drink that came along with it—the Vodka Martini. A combination of vodka and dry vermouth and garnished with three olives on a stick, this cocktail screams class all the way! And you don’t even need a brooding Scottish accent to ask for one!

French 75 – Casablanca (1942)

“Of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world, she walks into mine.” Maybe because you make a mean French 75! Apart from the doomed romance and the flurry of memorable quotes that are still alluded to in pop culture today, the 1942 classic “Casablanca” also made this drink a lot more famous. What’s with the name you ask? It’s said that the kick you get from this gin-and-lemon juice cocktail is so strong, it’s like you got shot by a 75-millimeter French artillery gun. Now that’s a drink worth trying!

Manhattan – Some Like It Hot (1959)

The Manhattan cocktail is a classic thanks in part to the 1959 comedy hit, “Some Like It Hot.” Cinema icon Marylin Monroe certainly loved it enough to hide some in a hot water bottle in the movie. Though traditionally, the drink has a rye base, Monroe made use of bourbon into her version in the film. In any case, both concoctions will have you swinging and swaying just like the characters in the film!

Cosmopolitan – Sex and the City: The Movie (2008)

“Why did we ever stop drinking this?” asked Carrie Bradshaw at the final scene of “Sex And The City: The Movie.” Though it would have been more fitting had she narrated the question to herself in true sex columnist fashion, it was a valid inquiry. Whether you’re a fan of the movie (and TV series) or not, you can’t deny that this cranberry, vodka, and lime juice mixture is a nightlife staple wherever you go. It gives the right fruity kick to jumpstart a long and fun night!

Piña Colada – 13 Going On 30 (2004)

Did your lips salivate too when you were watching Jennifer Garner’s Jenna Rink gulp down multiple Piña Coladas in the 2004 romantic comedy “13 Going On 30?” If so, you’re not alone! The drink had been a favorite for many even before the film was made, but that scene will have you craving it all night long just as she did! Though give Garner props for her excellent acting, if it wasn’t for her, you probably wouldn’t have remembered just how good this cocktail is!

The next time you go out, feel like a movie star and try out these famous drinks. They’re famous for a reason, and not just because they got their starts in the movies!
