If you thought this year’s Met Gala was camp, then you haven’t seen what’s been going on at Cannes. The annual film festival at the French Riviera, with all its prestige of fine film-making, has often been one of the most important fashion events of the whole year. It’s where stars from all over the world get to go all out in terms of their wardrobe choices, and boy did they ever!

Though the Opening Ceremony’s big trend was all about shimmering in silks and satins, most of the week saw frothy creations dominating the red carpet. From large volumized ruffles to multiple clouds of tulle, the Cannes Film Festival red carpet was a sort of fashion heaven the likes of which no one had seen before.

This year, it was either go big or go home and the biggest stars went big! See Deepika Padukone in her almost mile-long lime green confection of a dress by Giambattista Valli. Or Bella Hadid in a delicately ruffled white tulle Dior dress. Thai actress Araya Hargate also had a few frothy moments this week, from her pastel floral frock from Ateia Versace to her ‘shades of purple’ Ralph & Russo tiered tulle haute couture gown. Meanwhile, Priyanka Chopra donned a wedding dress-like ensemble complete with her husband, Nick Jonas, wearing a similarly all-white garb.

Other stars who took on this trend with full force include singer Madison Beer, actress Aja Naomi King, former Girls Generation member Jessica Jung, and iconic burlesque performer Dita Von Teese, among many others. If you want to see how their frothy numbers stole the show at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, check out the gallery below!

There are lots more fashion moments to anticipate at the Cannes Film Festival this year as it’ll end on May 23, 2019.
